Our customer journey with Switch began in late 2018. The project was to customize our community, freely available, rating-charging-billing solution - Cyclops - into a production ready, fully customized solution - ready for doing cloud accounting, metering, rating, charging and billing for Switch's cloud services for universities and research centers in Switzerland. The still active service was named - SWITCHengines.
Early days: 2018 - 2019
Cyclops engagement with Switch started in the pre-incorporation days. Switch wanted to adapt the open-source Cyclops rating-charging-billing engine for their internal use case. The first collaboration took shape in the form of Swissuniversities collaboration work and the proof of concept adaptation of the Cyclops stack was performed. Post conclusion of that project, it was clear that a converged telco+cloud billing stack was suitable for pure cloud services as well.
The years 2018 and 2019 were spent in customizing the billing stack with the internal process requirements at Switch. Ensuring that the solution can add invoicing relevant metadata into the billing records was an interesting exercise.
By 2019 the Cyclops billing stack was running as a stable service in production mode at Switch.
